- How much time does it take?
You can be a member with a commitment of only 6 hours a week. - What does it cost to be a member?
There is no cost to the member for joining, all necessary materials and training are provided at no cost to you. - Do I need to buy a uniform?
All required apparel is provided to you at no cost. A dress uniform is supplied once you complete probation. - Are there any special physical requirements?
The company will pay for an initial physical for you as well as annual physicals. There are no extraordinary physical demands placed on members. - Do I need to have any medical background or training?
No prior medical background is required. CPR and first aid training is provided to all members and more advanced training is provided to those who wish to pursue it. All members will be trained on driving the ambulances. - What if I get hurt while on an ambulance call?
All members are covered by the NY State disability program and additional disability insurance is provided by the company at no cost to the member. - Do I need to live in Mastic Beach to be a member?
Our district incorporates parts of Shirley as well as Mastic Beach and you do not have to live in the district to be a member. Several of our members live out of district including present and prior officers. - What is LOSAP?
LOSAP is a retirement program funded by NY State to reward volunteers for the time they devote to their volunteer activities. Details are available if you request it. Full details are provided to members. - How do I get started?
